Leap of Faith

Leap Of Faith

There he was. Standing on the edge of the cliff and staring at an imminent death. Scorching flames of wildfire towering behind him, and a deep dark abyss spread in front of him. His only escape was an unsteady, wooden bridge, swinging in the silent breeze.

He would not go back because it was hazardous to dash through those blazing flames. The intense heat would have burned him like a dry leaf and the devouring flames would have incinerated him instantly.

He tried for the bridge. Taking a step or two and then swiftly pulling back to safety. He was dreading for the bridge to collapse from his weight. Mustering up some courage, he gave it another shot. This time, completely breaking down the bridge. It fell in the gloomy abyss, giving a faint roar in the end. Now he could see no other way out. The fire behind him, the chasm of death ahead.

It was obvious now. He couldn't do anything else. The tip of the flames were now kissing his face. He had to jump now. No other option. But how could he overcome his fear of heights? He couldn't just jump into the pit of doom. But there was no other choice. His feet were now starting to slip off the edge.

His whole life flashed before his eyes as he gazed into the darkness below, and dreaded the inferno behind. Finally, he was forced to take a leap of faith. To save himself from the blazing flames, he dived into the cadaverous void, unaware of his fate. He kept on falling through the darkness, unmindful of the consequences. Then, in an unforeseen turn of events, he was saved by a stump, stretching through the vague darkness. It was a miracle of nature that he was rescued from that peril at last. All he ever required was that leap of faith.

Likewise, we need to take a leap of faith in certain situations in which the outcome is unpredictable. We stumble along the way and our beliefs are seldom shaken too, but sometimes we just have to have some faith in things and let things take their course. Like my grandfather used to say, "Before you can trust things, you ought to have a little faith in 'em."
